How to measure height for inside recess blinds

3. Enter the smallest Width and Height measurements and be sure to select Inside Mount in the Mount option area when ordering your blinds.

Do not make any Deductions on your measurements before entering. We will make the Deductions for you.

These will vary with the type of blind. Contact us if you require special deductions necessary for your situation.

NOTE: With Roller Blinds the Width measurement at position 1 at the top is the most important as this is where the brackets will fit. Enter this measurement providing all 3 measurements vary by less than 15mm. If in doubt please contact us.

We deduct 4mm for each Recess Mount Roller Blind. If any of your Roller blinds are side by side in the same Recess please advise us in the Additional Comments box or contact us to discuss. This will avoid any unnecessary deductions.

Measuring Height and Width on the outside face mount

Measuring to fit Outside Face Mount

(*Blinds sit on the architraves or on the outside of the wall above the Recess. This is the most popular mount)

How to measure

1. Measure the Width in Millimetres of how wide you would like the blind to be, either from architrave to architrave or allowing for your desired overlap on both sides.

Roller Blind Width is from outside bracket to outside bracket not just the fabric Width.

Width Outside the Recess diagram

2. Measure the Height in Millimetres from architrave to architrave or allowing for your desired overlap at the top and bottom.

Height Outside the Recess Diagram

3. Enter the Width and Height measurements and be sure to select Outside Mount in the Mount option section when ordering your blinds.

Blinds ordered as Outside Mount will be made to these exact sizes. No Deductions will be made.

Blind size is always the complete blind including any tracks or brackets.

Important Roller blind Width information

Measure outside bracket to outside bracket

Important Roller Blind width information

Inside Recess Mount

  • The complete blind will be made with a 4mm deduction** on the Width you enter
  • The actual fabric width will be 34mm less than the Width you enter

Outside Face Mount

  • The complete blind will be made exactly on the Width you enter
  • The actual fabric width will be 30mm less than the Width you enter
  • If you are calculating the complete blind based on fabric Width you will need to add 30mm
  • N.B. This is not a perfect science. The gap at each end is not identical. It will be slightly wider on the side with Chain Control

Adjustible pin mechanism

Adjustible Pin Mechanism

Blinds on the Net deduct 4mm Width from the Recess Width of single Roller Blinds.

This allows the complete blind to fit within the space as well as factoring in a slight tolerance for less than perfect measurements.

Please consider that a Roller Blind 1mm too wide, will not fit. A blind that’s a few mm small, will!

A snug fit is still guaranteed as our adjustable Pin end mechanism increases the blind Width in 1mm increments up to 9mm. Better to be safe than sorry!

NOTE: Blinds on the Net have a no refunds policy on Custom Made Blinds made correctly. This includes any blinds ordered incorrectly using fabric Width not complete blind Width.

How to measure individual Vertical blind blades

Vertical Blind Blades Height

When ordering individual Vertical Blind blades, please be careful to measure from the top of your blades to the bottom of the blades fabric. Do not include the small blade hanger that attaches your blade to the track.

Please also ensure our blade hangers are compatible with you existing system.

If you do not have any blades to measure, we recommend ordering a whole new set of Venetian blinds.

Important Panel blind information if you are ordering Inside Recess Mount

When considering if Panel blinds are right for you, please consider that if you are installing Inside Recess Mount, you must make sure that the panels fit inside your recess. For each panel of fabric, you will require one channel. Tracks are available in 2, 3, 4 and 5 channel tracks with each track having the following depths:

  1. 2 channel track: 45mm
  2. 3 Channel Track: 55mm
  3. 4 Channel Track: 69mm
  4. 5 Channel Track: 87mm

This means that if you require 4 channel blind, you will receive a 4 channel track.

If your blinds are Outside Face Mount, the you will be supplied extension brackets to hold the tracks in place, so track width is not as important in this scenario.

How to measure Linked blinds

Measuring for multiple blinds in the same Recess* (Linked blinds)

(*Inside the reveal, into a pelmet, between 2 columns, wall to wall)

How to measure

1. Measure the total exact inside Width of the Recess from side to side in three places in Millimetres as shown in the diagram. Positions A, B & C.

2. Measure the inside Height of the Recess from top to bottom in three places in Millimetres as shown in the diagram. Positions D,E & F.

3. Decide how many side by side blinds are needed to cover the Width and measure the Width of each blind individually in Millimetres as shown in the diagram. Positions 1,2 & 3. If possible, blinds should line up with the middle of any framework to avoid gaps over glass. Measure each section carefully. It is unwise to just divide the Recess Width by the number of blinds, as each section may not be exactly the same.

4. Add your blind Widths together. This total should equal the Recess Width.

5. Order each blind using the individual Widths and the smallest Recess Height as Inside Mount.

How to measure for Outside Mount Linked Blinds

Measuring for multiple Outside Mount* blinds (Linked blinds)

(*Blinds sit on the architraves or on the outside of the wall above the Recess)

How to measure

1. Measure the total exact Width in Millimetres of your windows from architrave to architrave or allowing for your desired overlap on both sides.

How to measure width of outside mount linked blinds

2. Measure the total Height in Millimetres from architrave to architrave or allowing for your desired overlap at the top and bottom.

How to measure height for outside mount linked blinds

3. Decide how many side by side blinds are needed to cover the Width and measure the Width of each blind individually in Millimetres as shown in the diagram. Positions 1,2 & 3. If possible, blinds should line up with the middle of any framework. It’s best to see the frame and not the glass through any space between the blinds. If you are measuring higher up the wall away from the door or window frames, it’s worth measuring and marking these positions to ensure the blinds lineup. Measure each section carefully. It is unwise to simply divide the overall width by the number of blinds, as each section may not be exactly the same.

how to measure the width of each blind individually for linked blinds

4. Add your blind Widths together. This total should equal the overall Width. Some blind styles will require some space between them.

Roller Blinds (individual or Linked) and Blinds with Head boxes or Tracks, can butt together so no Width deductions are necessary - unless specifically desired.

Roman Blinds and Venetian Blinds will need some space between them; we recommend taking 10mm off your individual Widths where necessary. Once this is done, you have your final measurements.

5.Order each blind using the individual Widths and the smallest Recess Height as Inside Mount.

Enter each blind working from Left to Right (as you look at them). This is important for Linked and Motorised Blind.

Please identify which blinds are side by side. This is very important for Roman Blinds and any blind with horizontal lines like wide blade Venetians and Zebra Blinds.

This allows us to pay special attention to lining them up for you. For Blinds with Pelmets it may mean 1 Pelmet rather than 3 small ones. A much better look!

How to measure Exterior Auto awnings

measuring outdoor auto awning for wall mounting brick wall installation

Measuring for wall mounting brick wall installation of Exterior Auto awnings

In this scenario the awning is mounted above the window on the outside of a brick wall.

How to measure

1. Measure the Width in Millimetres from one edge to the other, at the top of the window.

Add an additional 360mm to this measurement (180mm each side). This allows a fabric overlap to ensure the sun is blocked when at an angle to the blind. It also allows for the best possible fixing, by avoiding the mortar joints in most scenarios.

2. Measure the Height in Millimetres from the top to the bottom of the windows in the centre.

Add an additional 300mm to this measurement. This allows the head box to be installed above the window so that when the blind is retracted you will not see the awning from inside your home.

Note: If you do not have 300mm above the window (window goes to soffit) then the awning will be visible from inside the home.
